Linked above is a specimen book on the Frutiger font done by Allyse Engle. What intrigued me most about this specimen book, and in this spread in particular, was the use of Fruiter’s history in the designing of the pages. The Frutiger font was designed by Adrian Frutiger in 1968 to be used in the sign systems at the Charles De Gaulle International Airport at Roissy, France. Because it was initially used in transportation, Allyse Engle decided to continue by adding photographs of transportation in her specimen book. I believe it ties in nicely both the history of the font and the practicality of it. She does a great job of showing the real personality and beauty of the font by using its history as well as its typeface.
